Man praying with hands together, eyes closed. Text reads "Jeremiah 33:3 AMP" and a passage. Logo and "MenWhoFast Day 13" are visible. Mood is solemn.

When I think about my days in the world, a song comes to mind, Come and Talk to Me by Jodeci.

Just like the lyrics of that song, God is inviting you to come and talk with Him. He wants to meet with you. He already knows your name, but He wants to hear from you.

When you read the Bible, you see countless people who talked with God and every one of them prospered and built covenants that lasted for generations. Abraham. Moses. Joseph. And most notably, David. There are many more, but these men shared one common thread: they built a relationship with God, and He knew their name.

Because of those relationships, God made sure they prospered before trouble ever showed up. When you have this kind of relationship with your Father, He’s already preparing the way often without you even asking.

Too many times, we only come to God after trouble arrives. But when you pray, fast, and stay aligned with Him, you’re already equipped for what’s ahead.

You see this clearly in Genesis 39:2–3. Despite everything Joseph endured, the Lord was with him, and he had favor in every situation.

That favor came with preferential treatment. To someone without that kind of connection to God, the same situation could feel like misery. The difference wasn’t Joseph’s environment, it was Joseph’s relationship.

That’s why prayer matters.

Prayer is the time-building session with God. Talk with Him while you work, while you drive, while you’re in the gym, or sitting in silence. He is always listening.

The scripture share in Psalm 66:19 AMP:

“But certainly God has heard [me]; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.”

As you fast, start a routine of talking with God throughout the day. And as He responds because He will write down how He communicates with you in your journal.

Reflection

  •  When do I usually talk to God only in crisis, or consistently throughout my day?

  •  What distractions keep me from having regular conversations with Him?

  •  How has God spoken to me before, and have I taken time to recognize it?

  •  What would change in my life if prayer became my first response instead of my last resort?

Prayer

Father, thank You for inviting me to come and talk with You.

Teach me to walk in constant communication with You, not just in moments of need.

As I fast, sharpen my ability to hear Your voice and recognize how You speak to me.

Build my relationship with You so deeply that I’m prepared before trouble ever comes.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
