Remember those movies where childhood friendships start to change as everyone grows up? Life can be just like that, and it's completely normal.

Transitioning through life means evolving, and that includes our friendships. Just like 1 Corinthians 13:11 says, "When we were children, we thought and reasoned as children do. But when we grew up, we quit our childish ways." This teaches us that as we mature, we must let go of our youthful habits.

Sometimes, people in our friend circles resist change, clinging to childish ways that can hinder growth. As the saying goes, "birds of a feather flock together."

When you stay connected with a stagnant circle, their lack of growth can impact yours too. It’s perfectly fine to outgrow your circle; they might outgrow you as well. Friendships meant to last will endure, but they should be with people eager to grow, who wish the best for you and themselves, and are walking a similar path.

I had to step out of my familiar environment in Miami to truly grow. It was incredibly challenging to leave friends behind, but I wouldn’t trade that decision for anything.

Following God’s plan led me to new friendships, some for a season, and some for a lifetime.

You might find yourself in overlapping circles, where leaving one leads to growth in another. If you're feeling stuck, ask yourself if your current circle is part of the problem. If it is, detach from it immediately.

What was fun as a child might not serve you as an adult. You’re now a leader—whether at work, church, or within your family—carrying responsibilities. People look up to you, observing your actions; thus, the company you keep is paramount. You owe no one an explanation, and outgrowing a situation is a positive sign of breaking free from limitations and moving as God intended.

Let’s E.A.T.
